Healthy muscle building with hemp protein
Made with Love & Hemp Protein
I started running about six months ago.
It’s ideal for me because I can organize my time as I want, be out in the fresh air and work on my fitness and figure. As a vegetarian, I have been thinking about how I can support my muscle building. The good news is that there are a variety of plant-based protein sources that can be easily integrated into your daily diet. In my search, I came across hemp protein powder.
Hemp??? I hadn’t expected that. In addition to a protein content of 50%, the powder scores with essential amino acids, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, fiber and trace elements. Curious, I bought a tin – not cheap but by no means the most expensive product in the wide range of protein powders. And it’s also the best organic quality!
My first attempt was a little sobering. I thought that adding a little oat milk to the blender would produce a usable shake. The result was certainly healthy (I took that from the absolutely convincing nutritional table), but there was definitely room for improvement in terms of taste. I started my second attempt with a combination of bananas, blueberries and a little ground vanilla. It was unrecognizable – beautifully creamy, nutty, fruity and pleasantly sweet. In principle, you can add almost any fruit and flavor it with cinnamon, for example. It is certainly worth mentioning that the consistency is slightly grainy due to the hemp protein powder, which is why the combination with bananas is ideal, as they give the shake a good creaminess.
Up to 3 tablespoons of protein powder per day is recommended for my weight (50 kg or more). After a few trials, I found that one and a half tablespoons per shake gave me the optimum result. I drink the shakes directly after running or sometimes in the evening as a substitute for dinner. In combination with a balanced and healthy diet, I have found a good supplement for me. I have also lost a few kilos since then – a pleasant side effect.
I now also mix the hemp protein powder into my muesli and bread dough. It gives the bread in particular a hearty, nutty note – really tasty!
And the muscles? Sure – you can’t expect miracles. But the combination of exercise, a healthy diet and the hemp protein powder makes me feel stronger, fitter and simply better. To sum up, I can recommend the powder to anyone who is looking for a purely plant-based, gluten-free and allergen-free source of protein. Not necessarily to build up mountains of muscle – but that wasn’t the aim either!
Sincerely
Yours, Anja
